Volunteer!

onions
As part of the CSA concept, we continue to ask our shareholders to contribute to the success of Alambria Springs Farm by volunteering. There are many areas were help is needed and volunteer efforts will be matched to shareholder's abilities. Not all the help that is needed is in the fields, although of course some is, and that help is much appreciated! We understand that volunteering and Work Shares are not a reality for many shareholders, but perhaps it could be for some.

Let us take a moment to differentiate between volunteer work and Work Share. Volunteer work is time that you donate to the farm operation with no compensation, no strict hours or time frame, and no commitment up front for how many hours you will volunteer. Whereas a Work Share has specific hours, responsibilities, and a level of up front commitment that must be fulfilled before you receive your reimbursement. For more information on Work Share please read the information on the Join Us page.

Both will help us cut labor costs and continue to grow the kinds of crops we would like to offer our shareholders. Ideally, each shareholder would be able to volunteer 4 hours over the course of the season regardless of which share type is chosen.

Volunteer jobs may include the following:

  • weeding
  • help harvesting, washing and packing vegetables
  • organizing other volunteers
  • helping the "core group" facilitate projects
  • planting
  • garlic and onion harvesting, racking, trimming, and cleaning
  • other skills shareholders are willing to offer that would be beneficial to the farm
